Brilliance of the Seas is leaving the Building Dock Hall

Papenburg, 31.05.2002 - After completing extensive machinery trials, the 90,090 GT cruise liner Brilliance of the Seas, the second vessel for the American cruise operator Royal Caribbean International (RCI) will finally leave the covered building dock of the MEYER WERFTshipyard on the evening of 31 May. The vessel will be further outfitted at the pier until the second weekend of June and will then start her transit down the River Ems to the Dutch port of Eemshaven from where more sea trials will be conducted. The river passage is scheduled for the period between the 8 June and 12 June 2002. The Brilliance of the Seas is the second ship of four being built at MEYER WERFT for RCI. The vessel is 293.2 m long and 32.2 m wide. She will reach an operating speed of more than 24 kts. 2,500 passengers can be accommodated in 1,056 cabins, and serviced by a crew of 858. Energy is provided by two gas turbines and one steam turbine. The propulsion system consists of two 20-MW Azipods. The Brilliance of the Seas features numerous outfitting highlights, one being the nine-storey Atrium which offers a view of the sea through a glass outside wall, even from glass-walled elevators. This spacious area counts among the most impressive ones on the vessel. The theatre extends over three storeys and has two balconies arranged on top of one another. It can accommodate abt. 1,000 guests, and is fitted with state-of-the-art digital audio, video and stage equipment. The ship also offers an extensive sports area. The upper deck will have a nine-hole golf course. Sports enthusiasts who want to stay in good shape during the cruise may tackle the 9-m high climbing wall foreseen on the rear side of the funnel. The Brilliance of the Seas will be delivered to the Owner at the beginning of July 2002 following the river Ems transit and the completion of the sea trials in the North Sea.
