Viking Beyla and Viking Astrild
The structurally identical Viking Beyla and Viking Astrild were delivered by NEPTUN WERFT in 2015. The vessels built for Viking River Cruises were designed for particularly shallow waters and operate along the Elbe.
The development of the sister ships was funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. A testing section was built at NEPTUN WERFT to try out new materials and components. The aim was to develop a modern ship for the Elbe with a very shallow draught without having to sacrifice comfort or high shipping standards. This led to the emergence of Viking Beyla and Viking Astrild, which have only two decks and a draught of 1.15 metres, making them much shallower than the Viking Longships.
The 110-metre-long river cruise ships feature a restaurant, a lounge with a bar, and an expansive sun deck with playing areas and parasols. They can accommodate a total of 98 passengers in 47 cabins and two suites. Both suites and eight other cabins have their own balcony.
The wheelhouse can be fully lowered to pass through smaller bridges and balance out tide fluctuations.
