Norderaue

Norderaue

NEPTUN WERFT put the finishing touches to yard number S. 578 in April 2018. It was given the name “Norderaue” before being delivered to Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei Föhr-Amrum (WDR).

Norderaue was the second double-ended ferry to be built for the German shipping company. A double-ended ferry can travel in both directions due to its design and propellers on both sides. The first ferry for this shipping company – Schleswig-Holstein – was completed at NEPTUN WERFT in 2011. The new vessel is a modified reconstruction of its sister ship. It’s just as large and wide as Schleswig-Holstein and can accommodate just as many passengers, but Norderaue has a greater vehicle capacity – it has four lorry lanes to create more capacity for supplies to the island.

The atmosphere on board Norderaue is modern, bright and comfortable. Its salon deck offers seating in front of large panoramic windows. Norderaue is also suitable for passengers with disabilities, and it stands out for its eco-friendly ship design and operations, featuring a diesel-mechanical drive that runs on marine gasoil produced in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. This means Norderaue meets the “Blauer Engel” environmental standards.
