Costa Smeralda
World premiere: Costa Smeralda is the first LNG-powered ship constructed by MEYER TURKU. Liquefied natural gas is the most environmentally friendly fossil fuel on the planet. It prevents the release of particulate matter and sulphur oxides while substantially reducing the emission of nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide.
The specialists at our Finnish shipyard delivered Costa Smeralda to Costa Crociere in 2019. The ship was based on AIDAnova, which was developed by MEYER WERFT in Papenburg, but the liners have a different interior. Costa Smeralda puts the focus on Italian culture. All individually designed furniture, lamps, fabrics and accessories are reminiscent of La Dolce Vita. Its cabin decks are inspired by Italian cities, and the three-storey “Colosseo” is an impressive venue for concerts and shows.
Costa Smeralda is one of the largest luxury liners in the world – passengers are accommodated in 2,612 staterooms. The shipping company commissioned MEYER TURKU with the construction of a structurally identical sister ship, Costa Toscana, which was launched in 2021.
