The health of the people who work on board and in the environment of the new cruise ship Iona has the highest priority. In order to continue to ensure this, MEYER WERFT and the Port Medical Service Hafenärztlicher Dienst (HÄD) together with the port authority in Bremerhaven have now drawn up a comprehensive package of measures to enable them to continue to carry out necessary work on board.
Due to the early transfer of the IONA from Papenburg to Bremerhaven, MEYER WERFT's prevention plans had to be adapted and coordinated with the authorities in Bremerhaven in view of the dynamic development of the coranavirus spread. This was done in agreement with the shipyard representatives and led, among other things, to the decision to keep staff turnover in connection with the IONA to a minimum for the time being.
Meyer Werft has already successfully implemented an orderly transfer concept for on-board and shipyard personnel to and from Papenburg. Port Authority, HÄD and MEYER WERFT are continuing the intensive exchange of information on the continuation of outfitting work in order to make any necessary adjustments to the applicable regulations on infection protection.
"We are working hard and intensively on a wide range of preventive measures on board and are continuously optimising them. To this end we are in close cooperation with the authorities and the shipping company", explains Stephan Schmees, MEYER WERFT, Executive Board Member Project Management.
