Cruise vessel Super Star Virgo leaves MEYER WERFT´s covered building dock
Papenburg, 18.04.1999 - On April 17, 1999, following extensive dock trials, the 76,800 gt cruise vessel Super Star Virgofor the Asian based shipping company Star Cruises will leave the covered building dock of the MEYER WERFT shipyard in Papenburg/Germany and will be towed out to the fitting-out quay for further completion of the interior. On June 26 or June 27, 1999 the ship is scheduled to leave for Eemshaven/The Netherlands to undergo sea trials. With an overall length of 268 metres and a breadth of 32.20 metres the Super Star Virgo will have room for up to 2,800 passengers. The diesel-electric propulsion plant will give the ship a speed of 25 knots. Special features of Super Star Virgo include: A total of 982 cabins. More than 70% of the outside cabins fitted with a private balcony. An atrium extending over 6 decks with a glass dome and glass-walled lifts. A 2-level theatre seating 1000 passengers and fitted with state-of-the-art digital audio and video systems and stage equipment. The vessel offers a variety of speciality restaurants, bars and pools as well as a fitness center, a hairdresser, a beauty salon, a library and conference rooms. In addition to the large restaurant seating 650 passengers and the Lido Cafe providing 400 seats, Star Cruises is the only shipping company worldwide to offer both Chinese and Japanese cuisine in two speciality restaurants with a capacity of 120 persons each. Following the Ems passage and sea trials the Super Star Virgo will be delivered to Star Cruises in August 1999.
