MEYER WERFT starts construction of Carnival Jubilee

Papenburg, 18.03.2022 –

–MEYER WERFT has symbolically started the construction of the Carnival Jubilee with the traditional start of steel cutting. The 344.5-meter newbuilding is the first ship MEYER WERFT is building for the US cruise line Carnival Cruise Line. The ship will be delivered at the end of 2023. MEYER TURKU has already delivered a sister ship of the same design, the Mardi Gras, and a second ship, the Carnival Celebration, will follow at the end of 2022. In line with the cruise line's current anniversary, the ceremony at MEYER WERFT's Laser Center was also dedicated to Carnival Cruise Line's 50th birthday.

It was only in the summer of 2021 that Carnival Corporation decided to use this ship for another brand within the group. For the first time, a ship design will be transferred from MEYER TURKU to MEYER WERFT for this purpose. "This shows our flexibility and also our ability to respond to and implement our customers' wishes at short notice," says Jan Meyer, Managing Director of MEYER WERFT.

This increased effort in design and ship development, as well as the future capacity utilization of production with smaller and new types of ships, requires significantly more engineering services. The MEYER Group has already started in 2020 to bundle all competences in engineering across the board in a Global Engineering Organization with more than 1000 employees. For this purpose, the MEYER Group is currently looking for about 100 additional engineers of different disciplines at all locations.

Highlight for passengers is a roller coaster on board

Like her sister ships, the Carnival Jubilee will be powered by low-emission LNG, which is currently considered the cleanest fuel in shipping and completely eliminates emissions of sulfur oxide and soot particles, for example.

The Carnival Jubilee will feature many attractions that already thrill passengers on her sister ships. In addition to the spectacular roller coaster "Bolt," the main attraction is the atrium, which extends over three decks, which offers a breathtaking view of the open sea thanks to a huge window front.
