Naming of Passenger Ship No. 23 for Indonesia
Papenburg/Emden, 26.06.2004 - - On June 26, 2004 the MEYER WERFT shipyard in Papenburg/Germany delivered the 23nd passenger ship to the Directorate General of Sea Communication, Jakarta/Indonesia. Before delivery the 15,136 GT newbuilding was named Labobar by her Godmother Mrs. Hj. Sri Redjeki Sumaryoto, Indone-sian State Minister for Women Empowerment. Although Labobar looks like her predecessors she is absolutely different, especially regarding the interior design. This vessel is a technically advanced newbuilding in a series of passenger ships for Indonesia featuring improved passenger and cargo capacities. Labobar is 146.5 m long, 23.4 m wide and carries up to 3,084 pas-sengers. Upon completion of this ship the yard will have built a to-tal of 29 ships (23 passenger ships, 5 cargo/passenger ships and 1 gas tanker) for Indonesia. The first passenger ship out of this series was built in 1983 and was permanemtly modified to guarantee the most efficient opera-tion. Since 1983 about 60 million passengers have been carried on MEYER WERFT ships in Indonesia. In addition, 3 ships with a carrying capacity of 500 pas-sengers each were built in Surabaya/Indonesia in close cooperation with the Indonesian PT. PAL shipyard in 1995 and 1999 respectively. The cooperation between MEYER WERFT and the island state of Indonesia is one of the most successful German development projects. On June 29, 2004 the Labobar will finally leave Em-den for Indonesia and is due to arrive at the Indonesian capital Jakarta approximately 3 weeks later. The vessel´s home port will be the Indonesian seaport of Ambon. Labobar - Main Particulars
