NSW and MEYER WERFT successfully delivered the first gas tanker with

Papenburg, 11.12.1998 - The first of two gas tankers ordered by the Norwegian owner Solvang ASA was delivered on 11th December, 1998. This ship was built in cooperation between MEYER WERFT shipyard and Thyssen Nordseewerke. After completion of an extensive technical trial trip on the North Sea between 2nd until 5th December this gas tanker will now be handed over to the owner on the site of TNSW.

With this gas tanker named Clipper Viking with an overall length of 146.40 m , a breadth of 20,50 m as well as a cargo capacity of 12.660 m³ in 3 double-tanks, MEYER WERFT had their comeback into the gas tanker newbuilding market which is presently dominated by Asian shipyards. Clipper Viking attains a speed of 18 knots.

In three tanks the gas tanker is able to transport either ethylene, LPG or vinyl cloride monomer, ammonia and propylene oxide. The cooperation between the regions of "Ostfriesland" and "Emsland" for this project, mean in between the yards TNSW and Meyer, has been very successful. The naming ceremony was held in the covered building dock on the Meyer shipyard on 23rd November, 1998.

The keel laying of the sister ship has already taken place in Emden on the site of TNSW. With these two orders short-time work could be avoided for the workers of TNSW, and the MEYER WERFT Shipyard Papenburg had the opportunity to return to the gas tanker newbuilding market. The second gas tanker will be conveyed from TNSW to the MEYER WERFT in Papenburg for the final outfitting at the beginning of March and is scheduled to be delivered to Solvang ASA in the middle of next year.
