Successful cooperation between Thyssen Nordseewerke and MEYER WERFT shipyard continues
Papenburg, 21.06.1999 - Today the second gas tanker for the Norwegian shipowner Solvang ASA is to be named Clipper Harald by Mrs. Anne Helene Myklebust, wife of Egil Myklebust, President and CEO of Norsk Hydro. Norsk Hydro has chartered the vessel for a long period. The gas tanker has an overall length of 146.4 metres, a breadth of 20.50 metres, a cargo tank volume of 12,660 cubic metres and attains a speed of 18 knots. In addition to ethylene the ship is able to carry vinyl chloride monomer, ammonia and propylene oxide in three bilobed tanks. The capability of carrying different liquefied gases at temperatures of down to minus 104 degrees Celsius makes Clipper Harald one of the most modern tankers of its kind. The cooperation between Thyssen Nordseewerke of Emden and the MEYER WERFT shipyard of Papenburg - both located on the River Ems - in building these two tankers (the first one was delivered in December 1998) has been very successful. With the successful completion of these two gas tanker newbuildings MEYER WERFT is back in this highly competitive market which is controlled by Asian shipyards. Following the sea trials Clipper Harald will be delivered to Solvang at the beginning of July in Emden, who will manage the vessel on behalf of it's owner Partrederiet Clipper Viking DA.
